Self‑Non‑Self is the 1989 debut full‑length album by Cranes, recorded shortly after expanding to a four‑piece following their first EP Fuse. Their early sound — often described as gothic minimalism, dreampop and a precursor to the emerging shoegaze movement — is defined by stark textures, industrial‑leaning percussion and Alison Shaw’s unmistakable vocal presence.
Originally released with six tracks, the album was expanded in 1992 by Dedicated Records to include two additional cuts: Reach (Live) and Nothing In The Middle, Nothing At The End. That same year Cranes toured globally with The Cure, significantly boosting their profile.
This 35th anniversary Music On Vinyl edition is pressed on 180‑gram audiophile black and white marbled vinyl and limited to 1000 individually numbered copies.
